Sheila and Joel and their daughter live in Santa Clarita, California but a change that may result in doom occur when Sheila adopts a diet of feeding on human flesh.
It sounds perky, but the reality is amazingly gormless. The comedy is non-existent, and the cast spend their time gurning madly in order to cover for it.
The success of the show lies in its short, bite-sized episodes which are packed to the brim with laugh out loud moments and don't give the characters (or the audience) a moment to breathe before they're onto the next one.
Comedy, while subjective, still necessitates connection, and Santa Clarita Diet severs the tether too many times. Such superficiality may be good for a quick jolt, but it won't satisfy you when the meal's over.
Hewson is the breakout star of the show, giving a poignant performance in a well-written role that emphasises the eternal impatience and vulnerability of adolescence.
