The series follows a British Royal family, where might is everything and trust can be overemphasized. In the Royal family nothing is as glittering as it is presented to the public.
Perhaps it's the work of a demented genius and I just don't get it. Anyway, it's already been renewed for a second series. So, incredibly, somebody must be watching.
The Royals might have been more promising if it had been a little more ebullient and a lot more outrageous. There's something too ordinary about it. We want to be bloody gobsmacked, mate.
The Royals aims to fill the glossy hole left by Gossip Girl, and The OC before it. It's certainly sexy and soapy enough to fit the bill, but, so far, it lacks the sophistication of the former, and the compelling melodrama of the latter.
