This first season was as weak as Denise's adjustment with corny and dry stories that tried to be as 'everyday' and 'inclusionary' as Cosby but that did not succeed in the setting of an HBCU.
This sitcom needs more than positive energy. It needs talent. If A Different World fails -- and it should -- I only hope NBC has the sense to forgive Bonet and welcome her home, where she's always been terrific, on Cosby.
In its first season, A Different World didn't know what it wanted to be. It was supposed to be a slightly more mature extension of The Cosby Show, but it was also completely reliant on its parent show to stay alive.
