Writer and creator Simon Blackwell carved a niche on the first series of Back by colouring his sharp, punchline-heavy humour in a darkly psychological shade, and he continues similarly in this new six-part installment.
Like all the best comedies, Back gathers a load of clots and misfits together in a confined space so it can be funny about them -- and sometimes it is very funny, especially if your sense of humour tends, like mine, to the scatological.
Maybe in their next project they could try changing their accents or dyeing their hair or doing something to banish Mark and Jez from our minds for half an hour.
I laughed. There are some excellent lines. But some jokes are quite laboured, there are stock characters, and plot twists you can see coming a mile off. Like I said, I like it but can't love it.
